Huayu Tower

Huayu City Tower

Huayu City Tower marks Huayu City, a new city district on a former factory site southwest of downtown Chongqing.

When complete it will be the tallest in the district at 190 metres tall and comprise 75,000 square metres of grade A office on its lower floors and a five star Crowne Plaza hotel on its upper floors.

Two vertical volumes emphasize the tower’s slender appearance. Deep, vertical façade panels provide shading and decrease the amount of glass, reducing solar gain while improving the façade’s thermal performance.

Above the office floors a horizontal box is set into the tower – brutally disturbing the simplicity and regularity of the vertical volumes. The box accommodates the hotel’s lobby, restaurants, health club and a spectacular infinity pool. The expressed sky lobby – at hundred metres up in the sky overlooking all surrounding buildings – offers dramatic views of the hills to the east and west of the development.

The tower’s sensible shape is a result of the hotel operator’s requirements – every guestroom floor is efficiently laid out with 22 identical guestrooms. This floorplate proved very efficient for the office floors as well at 80% efficiency.
